[Thanks for your patience during a low-battery week! Next installment will be showing up on the usual schedule in a few days.]
Someday, I look forward to opening one of these docs and not having to report any more bullshit related to RFK Jr.
Alas, it is not this day.
As expected/dreaded, the CDC has licensed the fall COVID vaccines, but only for individuals 65+ or who qualify as “high-risk.” (a category amorphous enough to work for or against us, but here’s the present qualifying list. Right now, almost 75% of U.S. adults qualify, so don’t count yourself out!).
There’s a lot that we currently don’t know. (Check out this Guardian article for a quick rundown of what's clear and what's still a big question mark.)
In terms of “Now what?,” this guide from Your Local Epidemiologist (Dr. Katelyn Jetelina) is the most comprehensive, helpful write-up on fall vaccines I’ve seen thus far. Check it out and support her superb work!
For now, keep an eye on regulations in your state, and do what you can to mitigate risk for yourself and others. While leadership should be coming from the top (lol) and from qualified experts (lolllllllll), public health is still a group project, and it’s important for us to participate in any way you can — especially now.
Stay informed; stay safe (vaxxed if you can; if you’re out of masking habit, keep a mask handy for dense crowds and interacting with at-risk people); and, as far as your elected officials are concerned, stay really annoying.
