Although it’s not my favorite Cronenberg film, I have an enormous soft spot for Crimes of the Future (2022) — mostly because of its protagonist, Saul Tenser (a wry, weary Viggo Mortensen).

Saul is a performance artist and, in every sense, a content creator: he literally cannot stop growing new organs. My first time watching the film, I felt such tenderness in response to his fraught relationship to his body. On one hand, his body is his art. His flesh is both his canvas and his creative partner in an ongoing project of transformation. On the other hand, he’s in constant pain — a genuine starving artist because eating is such an ordeal.

Saul Tenser (a silver-haired man clad in heavy black clothes with a hood) reclines in a divan in evident exhaustion. He's flanked by a glaring woman in a red satin party dress (Lea Seydoux) and kneeling brunette in scrubs (Kristen Stewart).
Actual photo of me at any party that goes past 10 PM. (Alas, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart not included.)

Anyway, this is a roundabout way of saying that, without seeking my input, my body is creating more #content. Stay tuned for impending changes to the “Shooting Up” posting schedule as we establish a new normal.

For now, here’s a fresh episode, fresh backdrop, and discussion of the fresh hell breaking loose due to massive cuts to vaccine funding.
